Although Jasprit Bumrah has overtaken him to become the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing Test series Down Under that hasn’t made Nathan Lyon less charitable towards the former. The 25-year-old Indian pacer made a huge impact in the third Test in Melbourne picking nine wickets, including a six-fer in the first innings, to help India take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series. Bumrah now has 20 wickets in the series as against Lyon’s 17.
Lyon praised Bumrah calling him a very good all-round package and a top-class bowler after his show in the Melbourne Test. Australia found themselves facing a mountain to climb in the fourth innings of the match after Bumrah’s magic bundled them for just 151 runs in the first innings.
“Bumrah is quick and has a very good slower one. He is world class and has all skills, a very good all-round package. Not surprised that he is a top bowler in Test cricket so quickly because I have seen him in white ball cricket. So, he is obviously a top-class bowler,” Lyon said in the press conference after the fourth day’s play.
Current Indian bowling attack is world class
Nathan Lyon also conceded that current Indian bowling attack is a world-class one though he defended the Australian batsmen saying they were working hard and success isn’t too far from them. He also praised Pat Cummins for putting up an all-round show in Melbourne picking nine wickets and then showing some impeccable resistance with the willow.
Lyon finished the year as the third highest wicket-taker in Tests, bagging 49 scalps in 10 matches as against Bumrah who accounted for 48 scalps in his debut year in Test cricket. India have retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy now with an unassailable lead of 2-1 though the visitors would love to create history by registering their first ever series win Down Under.
