Jasprit Bumrah likely to return for Australia ODIs; Bhuvneshwar Kumar's fitness being assessed ahead of WI series

India are set to miss their bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah until January next year. Bumrah sustained a back injury ahead of the Test series against South Africa and has been ruled out of the action since then. And with the team scheduled to play against West Indies and Sri Lanka in the next couple of series, the pace bowler will not feature in both the contests.

Bumrah last played for India in West Indies and was then rested for the limited-overs leg of the home series against South Africa. He was picked in the Test squad but was ruled out around a week ahead of the series. The Men in Blue will host Australia in January next year for the three-match ODI series and Bumrah is now expected to return for the high-voltage contest.

Mumbai Mirror confirmed the news of the fast bowler missing the West Indies and Sri Lanka series. India will face the Caribbean team in three ODIs and as many T20Is after which Sri Lanka will visit the country for three T20 Internationals. India will need Jasprit Bumrah fully fit for the New Zealand tour which commences after the Australia series.

Like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvi also missing the action

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, meanwhile, hasn’t played for India since August and like his new-ball partner, has been sidelined by injury. However, the Meerut pacer marked his return in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament for the Uttar Pradesh and played a couple of matches. He also trained with the Indian team in Indore ahead of the Test series against Bangladesh during which his fitness was assessed.

The Mumbai Mirror report also added that the selection panel led by MSK Prasad is assessing Bhuvi’s fitness ahead of the West Indies series. The ODI and T20I squads for the same will be picked on November 21 in Kolkata where India and Bangladesh will face in their first-ever Day-Night Test from the following day.

With Rohit Sharma likely to be rested for the West Indies ODIs, Mayank Agarwal might get a chance while if Bhuvneshwar Kumar proves his fitness, the pacer might return to the team.
