It has been a disappointing IPL 2022 campaign for Mumbai Indians (MI), languishing at the bottom of the table with no wins in seven appearances. Recently, they became the first team in the history of the tournament to lose seven matches in a row. Ahead of their fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer discussed the form of the MI team and shared his views on their bowling unit as well.

Jaffer thinks that the whole cricket fraternity and fans want the MI team to secure their victory for bringing excitement into the tournament. He mentioned that the team is back in their den, Wankhede Stadium, and has a terrific record on his ground over the years. Jaffer further added that the team performed well in the last game against CSK, but it was the innings from MS Dhoni who took the opposition home.

“We hope Mumbai open their account for the tournament’s sake. They are back at their den and would want to definitely get up on the table. They will certainly be disappointed, but have at least come close against CSK. It was unfortunate for them due to the Dhoni factor being the roadblock,” said Wasim Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

Bumrah has been Economical, says Jaffer

Jaffer thinks that Jasprit Bumrah has done well to be economical, but hasn’t been taking wickets, like he has done in this season. He reckoned that it will do a good help to the stuttering MI team, if Bumrah manages to take wickets in the powerplay overs. Jaffer further went on to say that the other bowlers have been leaking runs at an expensive rate, which is one of the serious problems, that the team has to solve as soon as possible.

“Along with Bumrah, others have to step up. Bumrah has been economical, but he hasn’t taken wickets. He has to take consistent wickets in the powerplay overs to give the team a chance to restrict the opposition to a low score. The other bowlers neither are economical nor taking wickets. There are many problems, but they have to solve them quickly,” Jaffer added.
