Jasprit Bumrah pleasantly surprises Virat Kohli with a humongous blow
It happened to be Bumrah’s maiden six in One Day Internationals.
Prior to the fourth ODI between India and Australia at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, Jasprit Bumrah had an average of 2.20 in 47 matches, having scored only 11 runs out of which 10 runs came in a single encounter against the Aussies itself at the renowned Eden Gardens in Kolkata back in 2017. He scored six runs today and that happens to be his second highest score.
Hence, it can be said that Bumrah is a genuine number 11 batsman. However, today, he had a surprise up his sleeve and it took Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, by surprise. The incident took place in the final ball of the Indian innings where the home team ended up scoring 358 runs for the loss of nine wickets courtesy of a century from Shikhar Dhawan and a 95 from Rohit Sharma.
Bumrah smacks one over the ropes
Pat Cummins went for quite a few by the in-form Indian batsmen, but he kept running in and bowled his heart out. The right-arm speedster didn’t have much to cheer in the first match in Hyderabad but has been amongst the wickets. Today, the speedster picked up a five-wicket haul and restricted the home team from posting an even more daunting score on the board.
Bumrah came to bat after he got rid of Yuzvendra Chahal. It was pretty much understood that Bumrah would throw the kitchen sink at everything being the final delivery. Cummins bowled a full-length ball and Bumrah went for the aerial stroke. He cleared his front leg and swung his willow ferociously. Fortunately, the leather found the meaty part of the willow.
The shot had enough force and it comfortably sailed over the mid-wicket boundary for a massive six. The shot took everyone by surprise. Kohli gave a bewildered look, though he looked delighted by it. Bumrah also couldn’t believe that he managed to clear the ropes. In fact, it also happened to be Bumrah’s maiden six in One Day Internationals.
