Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been in sensational and lethal form with the Dukes ball in the three innings which he has played so far on the tour of England. Bumrah’s career has seen a rapid rise from being a successful white-ball bowler to becoming the strike bowler for his skipper in Test cricket on overseas tours. He has already picked up two five-wicket hauls in his short 5-Test career. Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison praised Bumrah and reckoned that his addition makes this Indian bowling a formidable unit.

Bumrah’s unpredictability his strength

Harmison stated that Bumrah is the X-factor in this Indian attack and that has a lot to do with his unorthodox action. The unpredictable nature of his action from the starting point to his release makes it difficult for the batsmen to read and judge him well. He also mentioned that lethal pace and consistency which Bumrah has generated on the English pitches so far in the series has made him a good addition to this Indian Test team.

“He gives you that bit of X-factor. He is quicker and bowls from a slightly wider release point. I think he is unpredictable, from the visual point of view, not from the areas his bowls. His pace and durability has made him a good addition to the Indian bowling unit,” said Harmison in his interview with the Mumbai Mirror.

Bumrah was forced to miss the limited-overs leg of the England tour and the first two Test matches due to an injury which he conceded during the T20I series against Ireland. However, the 24-year-old returned to the side in the third Test at Trent Bridge and picked up a stunning five-wicket haul to rattle the England team in the second innings.

The fast bowler has picked up 10 wickets in three innings so far at an impressive average of 16.80. Harmison also mentioned that Bumrah bowled exceptionally well in the third Test match to help his side win the game.

“He didn’t play the first two Tests but it didn’t take him too long to get into the series and his first spell at Trent Bridge didn’t look like from a man who has not played a great deal of cricket,” added the former England, fast bowler.
