India is all set to begin its T20 WC campaign on October 24 against Pakistan in Dubai and it is deemed as a much-awaited clash amongst all. In the days building up to the T20 WC journey of India, various cricket experts are weighing in their opinions on different players of the team and how they can benefit the cause of the team. In the same line of events, former Indian cricketers Irfan Pathan and Gautam Gambhir talked about the importance of Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian setup.
Gambhir added that Bumrah is going to be an X factor in the team while vital names will be KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Varun Chakravarthy. Pathan added that though Chakravarthy will do well in T20 WC, there can’t be a bigger X factor than Bumrah when it comes to the bowling department.
“Reckon that KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Varun Chakravarthy and probably an X factor, which will be Jasprit Bumrah,” said Gautam Gambhir while speaking on Star Sports show Follow the Blues.
“When we talk about Varun Chakravarthy, it’s clear that he will do really well because he has mystery and also is in top form. But according to me in terms of bowling, there is only one X factor and that is Bumrah. There can’t be a bigger X factor than Bumrah in any other team,” said Irfan Pathan on Bumrah’s importance in the team.
Moving further into the conversation, Gambhir threw light on Kohli’s last T20 tournament as a skipper and that he would be raring for a victory. The former opener added that it has been 14 years of lifting the World T20 title and if India wins this time, not only it will be great for Kohli but overall as well.
All Kohli would be looking for is to win the T20 competition: Gautam Gambhir
“All he would be looking for is to win the T20 competition and I’m sure that the entire team will be looking to do that as well because it’s been a long 14 years of wait. I’m sure that it’s not only about Virat Kohli that he’s going to be captaining India for the last time in the T20 format, it’s about just winning the tournament and him winning as captain will be icing on the cake,” stated Gambhir.
Concluding his statements, Gambhir added that having MS Dhoni as a mentor of the team will be of huge importance for India as he is someone very experienced who has actually done the job well. Sharing his experience with young players will be valuable for the entire unit as they move into the mega event.
“To share his experience with some of the young guys who are playing their first World Cup, which is going to be very important because playing in the World Cup is a completely different piece. So, you would need that experienced someone who’s been there done that. So, MS could definitely try and share all his experiences with some of the young cricketers,” concluded Gambhir.
