The stage was set for England and captain Eoin Morgan to upset the hosts and pocket a series finally after a traumatic tour on the India soil but in T20 cricket, the best is often saved for last. With 27 runs required off the last three overs, Jasprit Bumrah’s slower ones turned out to be too good for Jos Buttler, who failed to connect most times in the 18th over.

The pacer conceded just three runs in that over bringing it down to 24 off 12. Experienced campaigner Ashish Nehra, who had an impressive day in the field went for three in his last over, one of them almost got to the fingers of skipper Kohli before resulting in six runs. The equation favored England, with eight runs needed to seal the series from the final over.

The lady luck smiled at Bumrah after umpire Shamsuddin ruled Joe Root out lbw, as he failed to hear the nick, leaving England gutted. Root was back in the pavilion, scoring a run-a-ball 38. With the visitors needing eight runs from five balls, Bumrah kept on beating the bat before flashing up Buttler’s stumps. Chris Jordan, the next man in, missed another slower delivery but managed to take single. All-rounder Moen Ali missed out a low full-toss and that gave India a five-run win.

Bumrah finished with figures of 2/20 while Ashish Nehra picked up three wickets for 28 runs in his four overs. For India, KL Rahul batted well, scoring a vital 71 at the top and taking India to 144/8 in 20 overs, but it was Bumrah’s who conceded three runs in his third over and then just two in the last over, adjudged the man of the match.
