The year 2020 hasn’t been all that kind to Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler. He returned from injury and due to lack of performance, lost his no.1 ODI bowler’s ranking to New Zealand’s Trent Boult. Even in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the pacer has blown a little hot and cold. He has looked good in patches, but has been more erratic than usual.
However, on Tuesday, October 6, Jasprit put his best foot forward against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI), the seamer showed why he’s deemed as one of the best in the business doing the rounds in world cricket. He ended with figures of 4-0-20-4 and helped MI to a thumping 57-run victory.

He got rid of Steve Smith, the Royals’ captain, to open his account in the wickets’ column. Then he castled Rahul Tewatia, who could have done a lot of damage in the death overs. Apart from the dangerous duo, Jasprit also accounted for the wickets of Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal. Bumrah is currently second in the list of leading wicket-takers in the tournament with 11 scalps.
In the meantime, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh praised Bumrah for the masterful spell of bowling. The veteran reckoned that along with Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a match-winning 47-ball 79, Bumrah should have been given the Player of the Match award.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Jassi jaisa koi nahi ! Great spell @Jaspritbumrah93 my man of the match !!along with @surya_14kumar #IPL2020 #MIvRR.”

As far as the game goes, after MI put 193 for four, batting first, they didn’t look back. During the run-chase, Jos Buttler threatened, scoring 70 runs off 44 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes. However, once James Pattinson pinned him in the 14th over, the Royals couldn’t make a comeback.
The Royals were bowled out for 136 in 18.1 overs and MI moved atop the points table with four wins from six matches. The Mumbai team are next scheduled to lock horns with the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, October 11 in Abu Dhabi.
