Pakistan cricket is witnessing a rough time after their poor show in the just-concluded Asia Cup and a number of former cricketers and the game’s pundits have advised various remedy to its ills. One among them is former captain Javed Miandad who asked the country’s cricket board to prolong its domestic circuit to six months so that all its national players can participate in it.
A lot of former players have held Pakistan’s domestic cricket structure as one of the reasons for its failure on the international stage and the 61-year-old former legendary batsman is one of them. Pakistan crashed out of the Asia Cup after a string of poor performances that also included a couple of humiliating losses against arch-rivals India, which saw Sarfraz Ahmed’s side facing brickbats.
“The One Day cricket tournaments should be increased and all national team players participation must be ensured in the six month long season,” Pakistan’s financial daily Business Recorder cited reports as quoting Miandad as saying. He also said that the final squad for any international tournament must be picked from the best performers.

Miandad was particularly upset with Pakistan’s poor fielding in Asia Cup. He said the dropped catches made them look like club players and harboured a forthright opinion that players with such show did not deserve a place in the national team. A former coach himself, Miandad also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to make former or first-class cricketers play at local levels to help in game’s overall development.
“We have a lot of talented former cricketers all over Pakistan and we must utilize their services to develop cricket,” the former batsman with over 16,000 international runs said. On the performance of Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Miandad said the latter’s batting was not up to the mark. Ahmed was criticized for his slow batting in one of the games against India and not being able to accelerate the scoring in the middle overs.
