Jay Shah XI defeats Sourav Ganguly XI in a friendly match at New Motera Stadium
Sourav Ganguly's half-century went in vain for his side.
On the eve of the 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM), it was a good day at the office for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials as they were involved in a friendly practice game at the newly-built Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. The BCCI office-bearers were largely divided into two teams, President XI and Secretary XI. While the former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly led President XI, secretary Jay Shah was made the captain of the other team Secretary XI.
Surprisingly, Jay Shah & men emerged victorious in the friendly game by 28 runs as they produced a comprehensive performance in all the three facets of the game be it bowling, batting or fielding. The game commenced with Shah winning the toss and electing to bat first. Secretary XI managed to put up a decent total of 128/3 on the board in the allotted 12 overs.
The captain led from the front as he was the highest run-getter for Secretary XI with an unbeaten 38 runs to his name in 26 balls. Mohammad Azharuddin was also decent with the bat as he opened the innings and collected 37 runs in 22 deliveries including seven boundaries.
But the opening batsman had to go back to the pavilion after getting retired-hurt. The finishing touches were applied by former BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary who smashed 10 runs off 7 deliveries including a six.
Chasing a comprehensive total of 129 posted by Secretary XI, Sourav Ganguly gave a display of his terrific batting as he hammered unbeaten 53 runs off 32 deliveries. However, the captain’s innings went in vain as no other batsman took the responsibility to score runs and President XI fell short of 28 runs. Secretary Jay was the star of the show with the ball for his team as he finished with figures of 2/39.
