Jeffrey Vandersay axed from ODI squad against India

The 27-year-old leg break bowler has been penalized on the grounds for not playing domestic matches for his Club.

The Indian team decimated the Sri Lankan team 9-0 across all formats when they toured the Island. And now in the return series, India has established their dominion in the ongoing Test series, leading the 3 match leg 1-0. Following the culmination of the longer format, the teams will face in the ODI leg of the series.

However, it has been learnt, according to Cricket Age that young Lankan spinner Jeffrey Vandersay has been excluded from the ODI squad and will miss the encounter against India after a disciplinary action was taken against him. Vandersay, who is currently in India with the Test squad, was initially in the mix of the selection of the ODI team. The youngster traveled to India after being named as a replacement of Rangana Herath.

The 27-year-old leg-break bowler has been penalized on the grounds for not playing domestic matches for his Club. Sri Lanka Cricket Board described this as a breach of discipline and took the action to exclude him.

Sri Lanka announce squad for ODI series against India

In the interim, the Sri Lankan board released their ODI squad for the upcoming leg. The Islanders play three ODIs and as many T20Is against India. The ODI series will be starting on 10th December at Dharamshala. Sri Lanka has a poor record in limited overs format this year with a 4-21 win-loss record in ODIs.  The Islanders have been cursed with three whitewashes in 2017 against South Africa, India and Pakistan respectively earlier this year.

All-rounder Asela Gunaratne who was sidelined from international cricket after suffering a hand injury against India in Galle in July makes a return into the side to strengthen the middle order along with former skipper Angelo Mathews who missed the ODI series against Pakistan due to injury. Promising batsman Kusal Mendis has once again been overlooked by the selectors while Kusal Janith Perera who was touted to make a comeback since Champions Trophy has not been picked due to injury.
