Jhulan Goswami becomes leading wicket taker in Women's ODI

One of the stalwarts of the Indian women’s cricket team, Jhulan Goswami, has added yet another feather to her coveted cap. She recently became the leading wicket-taker in the history of the women’s ODIs. She surpassed the previous record holder Cathryn Fitzpatrick;s record tally of 180 wickets in the format of the game. May 9 was the benchmark day when the former Indian women’s team skipper entered the record books.
She reached the milestone en route her three-wicket haul against South Africa Women during the Women’s Quadrangular series in South Africa, 2017. She returned with figures of 3/20 in the 7.3 overs that she bowled on the day. Her efforts saw India Women restrict the Proteas Women to a mere 119 on the board. The Indian team then completed an easy win over the opposition by chasing the target with 7 wickets in hand.
In all, Jhulan Goswami now has 181 wickets to her name in 153 matches thus far as on May 10, 2017. She bowls with an economy of 3.18 which is very impressive in the format of the game and has been the new ball bowler for India since the year 2002. Ever since she made debut for India Women at the bare age of 19, she has grown in stature in the world of Women’s cricket.
Jhulan Goswami has the most number of maidens to her name as well in the 50 overs format of the game in her league. She has bowled 221 maidens as on the earlier stated. She has two five-wicket hauls to her credit in the ODIs.
She overtook Cathryn Lorraine Fitzpatrick of Australia to register her name as the leading wicket-taker in ODIs. Cathryn has been a stalwart of the game who has featured in 109 matches for the Australian women team. The former cricketer had an illustrious career too, that spanned for almost a decade and a half. She made her debut in the Australian colors in 1991 and went on to play 109 matches for the national side until the year 2006.
