Jimmy Neesham takes a hilarious dig at Azhar Ali
Azhar had to make the long walk back after his knock of 64 runs from 141 deliveries.
The first session of the third day’s play between Pakistan and Australia was a witness to a bizarre incident, which occurred in the 53rd over of the home team’s second innings. Fast bowler Peter Siddle dished out a full-pitched delivery and batsman Azhar Ali slashed at it with all his might. However, the ball flew through the slip cordon and Ali escaped.
In the meantime, he assumed that the ball had gone to the boundary, which wasn’t the case by any means. The cherry went tantalisingly close to the boundary hoardings but didn’t touch them. Azhar and his partner Asad Shafiq started having a chat in the middle oblivious of what was about to pan out. Mitchell Starc sprinted and collected the leather.
Subsequently, he speared in a throw from the third-man region and it was accurate enough to nestle into Tim Paine’s webbings. The Australian wicketkeeper showed awareness and he whipped off the bails in a flash. Azhar was shell-shocked and as the visiting team had the presence of mind to act appropriately and take advantage of the batsman’s carelessness.
Neesham joins the party
Azhar had to make the long walk back after his knock of 64 runs from 141 deliveries with the help of four boundaries. Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s head coach, couldn’t comprehend the proceedings and kept shaking his head in utter disbelief. The hosts also lost their fourth wicket in the process, albeit they were in a strong position with a significant lead under their belt.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Neesham, the all-round cricketer from New Zealand, took a hilarious dig at Azhar Ali for the peculiar dismissal and mentioned that a boundary off the gloves would’ve been more indifferent. He took to Twitter and wrote, “A glove punch for a four nicked through slips would’ve been bad enough by itself,”
