The world is going gaga over Steve Smith and the way he bats. The former Aussie skipper’s style of leaving the ball and playing unorthodox shots has got the world talking. However, in another country, there is a certain Trent Boult giving him some competition. The New Zealand fast bowler has got the world talking about his batting in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
Boult walked into bat at No. 10 at the fall of BJ Watling’s wicket. New Zealand’s score was 224/8. It seemed like they would be bowled out quickly but Boult along with William Somerville denied the Sri Lanka a wicket for more than 20 overs. The duo added 36 runs for the ninth wicket as they frustrated the hosts.
While Somerville stonewalled really well, it was Boult who produced an entertaining knock. The 30-year-old left-arm quick scored 26 off 25 balls which included two fours and a six. During his 25-ball stay at the crease, Boult played a few interesting shots which got the world talking. There were a couple of excellent and efficient shots which fetched Boult boundaries. There were also interesting and unique leaves and defensive strokes that Boult played.
The on-air commentators at the time also compared Boult’s batting style to that of Steve Smith. In fact, former Pakistan cricketer and current commentator said on on-air, “Boult is like Charlie Chaplin with a bat”. He swung his bat around before holing out at third-man attempting an upper-cut.
ESPNCricinfo tweeted by stating question, is there most stylish tail-ender than Boult? New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham who is a very active Twitter user retweeted by saying, Boult is the most entertaining batsman in the world.
