Jimmy Neesham trolled for comparing Virat Kohli and Rory Burns’ Ashes runs
The New Zealand all-rounder had been trolled earlier as well in various occasions.
England opener Rory Burns has been magnificent in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston. The left-handed opener struck a fine unbeaten 125 on the second day of the first Test against Australia as he put England in command. After reducing Australia to 122/8 on the first day, England let off the advantage as Australia scored 284. In his first Test match in over 16 months, Steve Smith scored a memorable ton and took Australia to a fighting total.
In reply, Jason Roy was dismissed early as he nicked one to second slip and departed for 10. However, Burns held firm and battled it out as along with handy contributions from skipper Joe Root and Ben Stokes, his unbeaten 125 took England to 267/4 on stumps on day two. It is Burns’ first-ever Ashes Test and he has delivered straightaway.
While the world applauded the 28-year-old Surrey lad, Jimmy Neesham tried to take a dig at Virat Kohli and Rory Burns. He cheekily compared the two batsmen’s Ashes records. He tweeted, “Rory Burns now has more runs in his first Ashes innings than Virat Kohli has in his entire Ashes career.”
However, this tweet didn’t go down too well with fans all across the world. Neesham was trolled for his cheeky tweet. In fact, this isn’t the first time Neesham has been trolled. The New Zealand all-rounder is very active on Twitter and has put out quite a few cheeky tweets. But this seemed like a dig at the Indian skipper, Kohli. When he became subject to trolls, he also tried to cover up.
When a fan retweeted with the caption that Kohli has won more World Cups than the entire New Zealand cricketing fraternity, Neesham was irked. He replied, “I don’t think you understand the premise of the joke. The joke is that Kohli can’t play in the ashes because he’s Indian. Thus it would be a silly statement for me to compare his ashes runs to those of Rory Burns, an Englishman. It elicits a response of surprise.”
Thus, here are few of the replies for that Jimmy Neesham tweet
