Joe Burns makes massive endorsement for his Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw
Australian opener Joe Burns who was dropped from the Aussie squad for the 3rd Test starting in Adelaide next week made a terrific response and a massive endorsement for his Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw, who will replace him in the Aussie squad .
Burns fared poorly in the 2nd Test scoring just 1 and a duck as Australia went down by a huge margin of an innings and 80 runs to surrender the series to South Africa. His dismal showing has put his immediate future in the side in jeopardy.
Renshaw has been continuously pushing towards a baggy green and his recent century against the South Australians in a Sheffield Shield match further proved his potential. Though Burns and Renshaw batted together during that match, Burns could only manage 4 and 2 in his two innings as Queensland romped home by a margin of 128 runs. There were absolutely no hard feelings between the duo as the younger of the two got the nod.
Burns took to his Instagram handle to congratulate his 20-year-old teammate and wrote, “Your (sic) my boy blue @MattRenshaw28, watch out world!”
The Australian selectors made wholesale changes ahead of the dead rubber at Adelaide dropping as many as 6 players from the original squad. Among the six newcomers, only two have the experience of playing international cricket before so we could see as many as four players making their debut in the pink ball Test at Adelaide.

Apart from Renshaw three other rookies to make the squad are Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson and Chadd Sayers. While Handscomb has been in scintillating form scoring a double century in his last Sheffield Shield game, the inclusion of Maddinson and Sayers raised some eyebrows as the duo is yet to prove their credentials consistently in the domestic circuit.
Callum Ferguson and Joe Mennie were the unlucky ones who received the axe after playing their maiden Test less than 8 days ago.
