South Australia seam bowler Joe Mennie has decided to retirement from state cricket so that he can return to be with his family in the United Kingdom. He played one Test for Australia as well against South Africa in November 2016. Mennie didn’t play the entire 2020-21 domestic season due to COVID-19 pandemic. There were travel restrictions while he was in the UK and hence missed the whole season.
The 32-year-old though returned to play for South Australia this season. However, the pacer has decided to bring the curtains down and is looking forward to spending some quality time with his family back home.
“I am extremely grateful towards the Redbacks for backing me across the journey, in particular through a difficult period across last season and into this season. To have two young children is an incredible joy, and I need to be as close to them as possible. They are, and will always be, the most important part of my life, and I can’t wait to get back to the UK and see them again.
“My journey with SACA has been a long and enjoyable one, but the time has come for me to move into the next phase of my life, and I am excited to do that with those closest to me,” Mennie said according to ESPNCricinfo.

“We thank Joe for every delivery he bowled as a Redback and his willingness to get stuck into the task at hand every day. We wish him and his loved ones well. He will always be welcome at Adelaide Oval,” Gillespie said.
