England skipper Joe Root and the management of the England Cricket Team would be ready to name the vice-captain of their team ahead of the start of the Ashes. With the absence of Ben Stokes from the English team, the Three Lions are forced to name a new candidate for Vice-Captaincy.

England lost the services of their ace all-rounder Stokes after an ill-fated incident outside a pub in Bristol where the Durham cricketer was seen punching an army veteran. As a result, due to the pending investigation, ECB did not name Stokes into the squad for the Ashes.

“Over next few days, myself and the management will have a chat and it will be sorted by the First Test. I don’t think it makes a massive difference to me on the field. I have some senior players around me who have been fantastic throughout the summer,” commented Joe Root according to The Independent.

“It is a side that is always wanting to help each other out, which is a great environment to work in. Players are thinking about the game, looking to drive it forward themselves and take responsibility. It is a joy to captain them,” further added successor of Cook.

First experience of captaincy on an overseas tour for Root

Before the start of the Brisbane Test, England has three tour games in hand as preparation for the high octane series. “We want to be as ruthless as we can and start the tour as we mean to go on. Everyone is excited, you can see there is a desire and hunger,” affirmed the Golden Boy of English Cricket.

The upcoming Ashes series is also the first overseas tour for Joe Root as a captain. Therefore, it the tour games would be an ideal opportunity for Root to get a firm grip on captaincy during an overseas tour.

“Obviously, we want to give guys the opportunity to play in the middle when those chances arise but at the same time not at the expense of losing and not being at our best. We’ll have the attitude of trying to win the game even though it is a two-dayer,” concluded Root.
