While Joe Root is perhaps one of the favorites to become the next Test match skipper for England, the establishment as well as their director Andrew Strauss has taken the executive decision to interview both Ben Stokes as well as Stuart Broad for the same role as well. Moreover, the likes of Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow those who have been those in the ring as well have been sidelined for the same.

While the interviews are certainly conducted on the same, this adheres to the process that Strauss had spoken about earlier whilst quashing the rumors of appointing Joe Root without much prior consultation. Ben Stokes is perhaps a strong candidate as well given the fact that he gives it his all each time he gets the three-lions across his chest.

While Stokes is someone who has somewhat of a short fuse, the fact is that Stuart Broad may be a better fit in the grand scheme of things given the fact that he has had such a role in the past as well. This role ha seen him captain the T20 side at one point, something that has seen him be a captain before. Broad is also someone who is a pick for Graeme Swann who certainly believes that Joe Root is not ready for the same.

All of these developments have come following the stepping down of Alastair Cook who has bot been up to the mark as he skipper in recent times, something that has seen many including the likes of Ian Chappell and Geoff Boycott call for his head. While the establishment decided to stick with Cook, it was an executive decision for the 31-year old to step down.
