Jofra Archer nutmegs skipper Eoin Morgan during 2nd ODI against Australia, impresses Manchester United's Marcus Rashford
While Morgan wasn't pleased with Archer showing off his football skills at his expense, he surely was elated after England's impressive show in the second ODI.
Pulling off a nutmeg from his bag of tricks is undoubtedly a pleasing on-field experience for a footballer. Being able to baffle the defender by dribbling the ball through his legs is a satisfying moment for a football player.
England speedster Jofra Archer also turned heads with his football skills during their second ODI against Australia. After receiving a drubbing the first ODI, the Eoin Morgan-led side snatched an unlikely win in the subsequent game to level the three-match series 1-1.
Archer, who scalped three wickets to dismantle Australia’s run-chase, was adjudged Man of the Match. However, for the England quick, the best part of the night was his impressive football show over his MoM trophy. A day after the second ODI, the Barbadian-born speedster shared a video of him nutmegging skipper Morgan, after a delivery to Alex Carey.
“Best part of the night for me,” Archer captioned the picture with a series of laughing emojis, and added “close em skip,” referring to Morgan’s legs. Archer even tagged Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and asked him to rate his football skills.
Marcus Rashford even responded to Jofra Archer’s clip
Rashford, a vital part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United set-up, responded to Archer and heaped praise on his nifty footwork. “My brother so great to see you happy doing what you’re doing. And you’re DOING it,” Rashford wrote in response to Archer’s video.
While Morgan wasn’t pleased with Archer showing off his football skills at his expense, he surely was elated after England’s impressive show in the second ODI. England were 1-0 down in the series coming into the second ODI, and after posting a 231-run total in the first innings, the hosts were on the verge of losing the three-match rubber.
However, Morgan introduced Archer and Chris Woakes to gain back the momentum. The gamble eventually worked out as Australia lost four wickets for three runs and were eventually bowled out.
“With the white ball, he hasn’t had a bad day out yet. It is so rare. Playing at the highest level, you maybe have one in four or five really good days; the rest you try and contribute when you can. But he’s continuing to prove he’s awesome to have in our group,” Morgan said while lauding Archer’s brilliance with the ball.
