Jofra Archer picks the top three bowlers in T20 cricket
He also expressed his wish to win the purple cap for his team Rajasthan Royals.
When it comes to impressing with the ball in T20s, Jofra Archer certainly knows a thing or two about it. The highly-rated English all-rounder has been a sensation across the globe with his stunning exploits with the ball. In a format which is considered a graveyard for the bowlers, Archer has proved his mettle with his ability to contain batsmen in addition to picking up wickets at crucial junctures. His ferocious mix of fast bouncers and deadly yorkers have made him a nightmare for the batsmen across the globe.
Jofra marked his arrival in T20s while playing for Hobart Hurricanes in the 2018 Big Bash League in Australia. Prior to that, he had also impressed for Sussex in the T20 Blast, guiding the county to finals day in a campaign during which he took a hat-trick against Middlesex that included the wicket of England’s one-day captain, Eoin Morgan. The performance had helped him bag a whopping contract of INR 7.2 crore from Rajasthan Royals last year.
And just like the majority, the Barbados-born cricketer rates himself as one of the best T20 bowlers in the world at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals star said that he along with Jasprit Bumrah and Rashid Khan are the best T20 bowlers in the world right now.
“I am going to say that I quite like Bumrah. I would include a spinner in the list and that is Rashid Khan. So it’s me, Bumrah and Rashid, who are three best bowlers in T20 cricket,” Archer was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
He further shed some light on why Bumrah has excelled in T20s. Archer, who will soon qualify to play for England in the international arena after completing a mandatory seven-year residency in the country, added that Bumrah’s unusual action makes it difficult for batsmen to pick him.
“Even with his action, he bowls yorkers really well. And the key to possessing a potent slower delivery in case of Bumrah is his action. His hands go on all directions and suddenly you will find it really hard to pick up the slower one,” explained the Caribbean-born cricketer.
Archer’s big aims
Jofra Archer also went on to say that his immediate aim is to help the Rajasthan Royals make it to the playoffs. He also said that he would like to get the Purple cap which is given to the highest wicket-taker of the season.
“I just want us to get to the playoffs first and then worry about getting into the finals. Personally, I will like to get the Purple Cap. I want to score a few runs as well as I didn’t score too many last year. Hopefully, I can turn that around this year and show what I can do with the bat,” the 23-year-old signed off.
