An unfortunate ankle injury to 27-year old John Hastings saw him ruled out of the IPL. However, while ‘The Duke’ remains unavailable for further action for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Hastings has been disappointingly ruled out of Australia’s tour of the Caribbean as well.

Scot Boland, who made his mark in the ODI series against the Indians down under has replaced the 27-year old Victorian. The same was announced by Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Wednesday (April 27). Hastings made his ODI debut earlier this year against India in January at the WACA. Hastings, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders, picked up the injury during training ahead of their clash against the Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on April 13.

Alex Kountouris, the head manager for Cricket Australia’s sports and medicine center released a statement on Wednesday confirming the ruling out of John Hastings from the tour.

“John experienced pain in his left ankle during his recent stint in the IPL and had scans upon returning home which has confirmed early stage bone stress of his fibula bone near his ankle,” he said. “While laid off with this injury we have taken this opportunity to undertake arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his left ankle which have been causing him concern for some time and were possibility contributing to the cause of the bone stress.

“John had this surgery over the weekend and now requires a period of rest to resolve the bone stress and recover from surgery before he will resume bowling,” Kountouris added.

The Aussies play their first match of the Tri-series against the West Indies on the 5th of June.
