Johnson Charles replaces Bravo in West Indies squad for World T20 2016

Johnson Charles has been called in as a replacement for Darren Bravo in the West Indies’ squad for the World T20 2016 to be played in India which starts from March 8. Charles will head into the tournament on the back of a good show for St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where he finished as the third-highest run-getter for his side.

Earlier, Bravo had refused to sign the central contract and withdrawn his name from the T20 squad. He said the reason he was opting out was because his long-term goal was to do well in Test cricket. “I’m very grateful and humbled for the opportunity to represent the West Indies at the World Cup,”

Bravo was quoted in a WICB media release. “However, I’m of the firm belief that I have a very big part to play in the resurgence of West Indies cricket in the longer formats of the game and I will like the opportunity to play in our Professional Cricket League [the regional first-class tournament] because it will put me in good stead and will allow me to achieve those goals that I have aligned myself for the year 2016 and beyond.”

West Indies has been put into a competitive group with England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and one of the qualifiers from the first round.

They have lots of firepower in their side with most of their players having a decent experience of playing in India during the IPL.
