English wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow, in a recent interview, revealed that he aims to be the number 1 Test batsman in the world. The Yorkshire batsman seemed to delighted to be placed at number 7 currently in the latest Test rankings.

In the recently concluded series against South Africa, Bairstow constantly chipped in with contributions lower down the order, batting at 5 down. He missed out on a ton in the fourth Test match at Manchester in the second innings as he was adjudged LBW on 99. He scored three half centuries in the series in which he scored 330 at an average of 41.2.

“Seven is, apparently, now where I also find myself in the ICC world batting rankings, which I’m delighted about. Is No 1 feasible? Why not! It’s not something you think about but my aim has always been to work hard to become the best I can possibly be as a batsman and keeper, and if that pushes me even higher in the rankings then I’ll take that,” quoted Jonny Bairstow according to Daily Mail.

Bairstow looking forward to first D/N Test match in England

The Yorkshireman also brought up is 100th dismissal during the series and was elated about his feat in Test Cricket. “It was also huge for me to reach 100 dismissals for England in this Test. I loved that. If you think back to where I was two years, or even 18 months ago and what people were saying about my keeping, it’s a really nice landmark. I’ll keep cracking on,” added the English batsman who amassed more than a thousand runs in a calendar year in 2016.

Bairstow now is looking forward to the first ever Day-Night Test match to be held at Edgbaston against West Indies.”We will venture into the unknown next week with the first day-night Test in this country, which will be very interesting,” concluded Bairstow.
