Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Jonny Bairstow has been one of the most impactful players in the ongoing IPL. The England star, who is having his maiden IPL season, has taken the league by storm and has formed a formidable partnership with David Warner at the top of the order. Bairstow’s partnership with Warner is one of the biggest reasons behind Sunrisers’ five wins this season so far.
Warner and Bairstow are currently sitting at the first and second spot respectively in the leading run-scorers’ list which pretty much shows their impact. On Sunday too, they proved their worth by blowing away Kolkata Knight Riders, helping Sunrisers win the game by 9 wickets. Both the openers hit fifties as Sunrisers won the game with 30 balls to spare and by losing just a solitary wicket.
The Sunrisers bowlers did a fine job to overcome a poor start and restrict the Knight Riders to a modest 159 for 8. Khaleel Ahmed starred with the ball, picking up 3 for 33 off his four overs. Bairstow and Warner then came out all guns blazing to dash Knight Riders’ hopes of making a comeback in the game. They added 131 runs for the first wicket before Warner departed for 67. Bairstow, however, remained till the end and scored an unbeaten 80 to take his side home with utmost ease.
SRH to miss Bairstow and Warner:
Sunrisers will have their task cut out in the fag end of the tournament as both Jonny Bairstow and David Warner will leave the competition due to international commitments. While Bairstow will leave India after the upcoming game against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday, Warner will depart for Australia by the end of April. And Sunrisers skipper Kane Williamson admitted that Warner and Bairstow are going to be big losses for the team.
“We kept them down to a low total. It was a complete performance. It is a tough tournament. You need to adapt. Let’s hope they continue. Everyone is trying to play their roles. To take nothing away from the first half, the bowlers did really well. It has been a pleasure to watch them bat. We know that we would come in as a middle order when needed. They (Bairstow and Warner) are gonna be big losses. They are world class players and they will be missed at the back end,” said Williamson in the post-match presentation.
