Jonty Rhodes, Murali Vijay to be part of Music, Surfing and Yoga festival in Chennai
The festival commences on August 25.
Veteran Indian Test opening batsman Murali Vijay and former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes are all set to be a part of the Covelong Point Surf, Music, and Yoga Festival in Chennai. The festival is a very renowned celebration in the city and is best known for the surfing experience that it gives. It is a well known fact that Jonty Rhodes loves to spend his leisure time whilst surfing the waves.
The festival has helped the coastal village of Covelong come to the fore and be seen as a marked place on the Indian map. The annual festival sees a lot of people attending the occasion. Along with surfing, the two other primary attractions of the Covelong Festival are Music and Yoga.
The fitness exercises and the traditional yoga forms are all a part of the festival. Among the many people visiting the festival, two big cricketing names have joined in as well. Murali Vijay, who hails from Chennai, is all excited to be a part of the festival. Along with him, former cricket Jonty Rhodes is also set to be a part of the celebration. He is currently in India serving in the capacity of the fielding coach of the Ruby Trichy Warriors in the 2017 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
Both players will be a part of the surfing section of the festival. As per the reports in the Business Standard, the surfing competition will commence on August 25. The championship is registered by the Surfing Federation of India. The top men’s and women’s surfers from different places will take part in the championship.
There will be 7 categories: Novice (U-12), Groms (U-16), Juniors (17-22 Years), Seniors (23-30 Years), Masters (31 Years and above); Women (all ages), Open Category (Foreign Nationals). It is the fifth edition of the Covelong Point Surf, Music, and Yoga Festival. The registrations are currently open. The vice president of the Surfing Federation of India believes that the festival will be a big hit yet again.
“We have come a long way since 2013, surfing has grown exponentially all these years putting Covelong Village right on the map as a premier surfing destination, and has also produced some of the best surfers in the country from time to time. I am very confident of an extremely competitive field this year as well at the Covelong Point Surf, Music & Yoga Festival,” said Ram Mohan Paranjape, Vice President, Surfing Federation of India.
