Rajasthan Royals team registered their third win in the tournament and second over Mumbai Indians in their encounter on April 20 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Though this didn’t make any significant changes in the points table, MI lost the chance to get to the no.1 spot with this loss.
The match proved to be a very significant one for Royals, as shocking before the match, two major changes happened for the Jaipur-based franchise. First, they announced that Ajinkya Rahane was removed from the position of the captain of the team and instead Steve Smith was being named as the leader. Smith has been captain of RR in IPL 2015 and took them to playoffs, while captained Rising Pune Supergiant to finals of IPL 2017.
However, the second news that filtered out of the team management was that Jos Buttler had gone back to England to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. Buttler was perhaps the best RR batsman who was carrying the team’s batting and him returning proved to be a spanner in team’s causes.
Will Buttler return back to IPL 2019?
Jos Buttler has also been named in England’s preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 and was scheduled to leave shortly for the pre-WC preparatory camp and for the ODI series against Pakistan at home.
But instead of leaving later this month along with Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, Buttler has left for England to be with his wife for the birth of their first child and it has been reported by Sky Sports that Buttler will not return to continue his stint with Rajasthan Royals, for whom, he has 311 runs and three fifties in eight innings and was responsible for their earlier win over MI, scoring 43-ball 89 at Wankhede Stadium .
Though Steve Smith has boosted RR’s chances of playoff qualifications with this amazing win over MI, he too will leave for Australia duty by May 1, leaving Rajasthan to find a new skipper for remaining encounters.
