4 runs were needed from the last ball. Mitchell Johnson was ready with the ball and so was his country-mate Dan Christian holding the bat. He hit it for a couple and owing to a fumble in the deep, ran back for three. But that run was not completed as Parthiv Patel shattered the stumps before Washington Sundar could reach home. While the supporters of Pune were left in agony, the Mumbai Indians fans were dancing with joy.
Why shouldn’t they? This was their third IPL title. They are the first team to win three IPLs. They were defending a very low score and was once considered out of the race. But they turned the tables on Pune and came out victorious. Thousands of fans went crazy watching their favourite team win. Among those thousand, there is one notable mention. He is the English batsman Jos Buttler.
Buttler is an integral part of the Mumbai Indians and was instrumental in their good form in the league stages this season. But he had to leave India midway to start preparations for the Champions Trophy 2017, which commences from 1st of June. The star English wicketkeeper-batsman opened the innings for MI alongside Parthiv Patel. He has scored 272 runs this year, averaging a bit over 27 runs per game. He boasts of a phenomenal strike rate of over 150.
