Jos Buttler names England’s strongest competitors in the 2021 T20 World Cup
Buttler also said that playing in tournaments like the IPL and BBL have groomed the English players into becoming world-beaters.
England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has picked India and the West Indies as the two teams, who can pose massive threats to the Brits in the 2021 T20 World Cup. The mega event in the UAE gets underway on October 17, but the Three Lions are set to start their campaign on October 23 against the Caribbean team in a Super 12 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
England are currently placed fourth in the ICC’s rankings for T20I teams below New Zealand, India and Australia. But Buttler reckoned that his team has the potential of going all the way. Buttler, one of the finest white-ball players in his country, admitted that England will miss the services of Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, but sounded confident with the number of match-winners in their ranks.
There’s other fantastic teams around the world as well, says Jos Buttler
“I think we’re certainly one of the favourites, I think we’re a brilliant team,” Butter said at an event at Sixes Cricket Club, Mirror reported. At the event, Buttler was named as the official ambassador of Booking.com’s sponsorship for the world event in the UAE.
“I know we’re going to be missing Ben and Jofra, two superstars, but I think you still look down that list and there’s some real match winners in our side and that’s really exciting,” he stated.
“There’s other fantastic teams around the world as well, I look at India and the West Indies in particular who are always really strong. West Indies have a lot of experience in T20 cricket and a lot of six hitting capability which is quite nice to have in your team.
“But I think we’re a really good team and we’ll focus a lot on ourselves and playing good cricket to the best of our ability. If we do that, we can go a long way,” he added.
Back in 2016, Buttler played for the England team that lost in the final of the World T20 after Carlos Brathwaite smashed Stokes for four sixes in a row at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
But Buttler felt that the Brits are a stronger unit with their players, featuring in the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League and other tournaments.
