Jos Buttler names Rohit Sharma and Sir Viv Richards as his dream opening pair

Rajasthan Royals’ swashbuckling batter Jos Buttler has named his dream openers from the past and current eras of the cricketing world. The wicketkeeper-batter has named West Indies legend Sir Viv Richards and Indian current skipper Rohit Sharma as the two best in the game.

Buttler is currently participating in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and representing Rajasthan Royals. The right-handed batter has scored 375 runs in just six matches and is currently the highest run-getter in the tournament. The hard-hitting opener has also stroked two centuries in IPL 2022.

I would love to see him playing T20 cricket: Buttler on Viv Richards

In a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Buttler said that he would have love to see Viv Richards batting in T20 cricket and named Rohit Sharma as the current era’s dream opener. To note, both Buttler and Rohit have played together during the England batter’s time with five-time champions MI.

Rohit Sharma’s debut came against Ireland after India’s disastrous World Cup campaign in 2007. Since then, the Indian skipper has played 230 ODIs and 125 T20Is for India. The right-handed batter has also scored 9283 and 3313 in ODIs and T20Is. He has 70 half-centuries and 33 hundred in the white-ball formats.

Talking about his Test career, the 34-year-old has played 45 Test matches and has amassed 3137 runs at an average of 46.13. Rohit has stroked 14 fifties and eight hundred in the longest format of the game. He also has a double-hundred under his name. Rohit is now also India’s skipper across all three formats of the game.

Talking about Sir Viv Richards, the veteran represented West Indies in 121 Tests and 187 ODIs. The right-handed batter amassed a total of 15,261 runs in both formats combined and that too at an average of almost 50. Richards scored 90 fifties and 35 hundred in his excellent international career. The veteran batter has also played County cricket for Somerset. In 2000, Richards was named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Century.
