The match was a crucial one for both the teams, as the match was a knock-out match in the Group A of the Champions Trophy. If New Zealand had secured the victory, they could have almost sealed their place at the top of the table, with a victory against Bangladesh if England loses their match against arch-rivals Australia.
Although the match was crucial for the Islanders, the team just did not turn up for the party; the hosts just hammered the team in all departments. With the massive victory over New Zealand, England has almost but sealed their spot at the top of the table, with only Australia having the possibility of joining them at the top. Not only topping the group, but the hosts also sealed their place in the semi-finals stage of the competition.
Put into bat first, England began the innings on a good note despite the wicket of the opener Jason Roy. The partnership between Joe Root and Alex Hales set the momentum for the batters to follow. Ben Stokes followed it up with a 48 of his own, but the score was just crawling under 300, which was not a good sign for the hosts.
The moment of the day:
However, English wicketkeeper Jos Buttler smashed home a 48-ball 61 runs which led them to the total of above 300. Buttler brought out an outrageous shot in the 46th over of the innings when he scooped the left-arm seamer Trent Boult right over the wicket-keeper to the fence for a huge six. In the process, the wicket-keeper’s willow would have caused damage to the cameraman right behind the wicketkeeper.
The cameraman was quick enough to escape from any sort of damage to him and the camera, leaving them unscathed. All that the cameraman could do is to send the ball back to the middle of the park.
