With Eoin Morgan suspended for slow over-rate offence in the previous game, Jos Buttler will return to lead England in the fourth ODI against Pakistan. Buttler was rested for the third match in which England chased down 359 in a canter with more than five overs to spare. The hosts lead the five-match series by 2-0 and will be looking to seal the series in Nottingham on Friday.

Buttler is also in scintillating form with the bat having smashed a 50-ball ton in the second ODI. In Morgan’s absence, he might also promote himself in the batting order at the Trent Bridge. England scored 444 runs last time they met Pakistan at the venue in 2016 and then went on to break their own record against Australia here by smashing 481 runs in 50 overs.

England set to experiment

England will not be losing the series now and they are set to experiment in the last two games of the series. While Jofra Archer comes back in the playing XI, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes are set to be rested. Even David Willey will also miss this game according to Cricbuzz. All these players weren’t seen at the training session on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Mark Wood will play his first game of the series with James Vince also getting a chance and Adil Rashid will also return after missing out in the third ODI.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, Mohammad Hafeez looks likely to play his first game after thumb surgery and might replace Haris Sohail. Faheem Ashraf looks set to be dropped after mediocre outings and Mohammad Hasnain should replace him.

England’s possible playing XI: Jason Roy, James Vince, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (c/wk), Joe Denly, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Tom Curran, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood.

Pakistan’s possible playing XI: Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Asif Ali, Sarfraz Ahmed(c/wk), Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hasnain, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Junaid Khan.
