Jos Buttler's World Cup 2019 final jersey attracts 82 bids; sold for Rs 60.8 lakh
Jos Buttler scored a brilliant half century wearing that jersey in 2019 World Cup final for England.
Cricketers have come forward to help the poor and underprivileged in such alarming situations formed due to Coronavirus pandemic. Now, Jos Buttler has also joined the bandwagon as he auctioned his 2019 World Cup final jersey in order to raise funds in the fight against the novel virus. And it received an amazing response.
In 2019, England managed to win their maiden World Cup trophy. Interestingly, Jos Buttler played a big role in making his side win the final of the marquee event. He played a fine knock of 59 runs. Later on, he scored 7 runs off 3 balls in the tie-breaking Super Over. Moreover, he completed the last-ball run-out due to which England won the elusive tropy by defeating New Zealand.
Last week, the right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman from England put his special jersey for sale on eBay. It soon attracted lots of bids from every nook and corner. By the time the auction window closed, it had received a total of 82 bids from various parts of the world. And the highest bid to buy his jersey was £65,100 (Rs 60,79,180).
Jos Buttler reveals where the charity money will go
After the auction, Jos Buttler said that the jersey holds a special place in his life and getting it used for such a great cause will only add a special meaning to it. Buttler also clarified the fact that there was an internal link that motivated him to take such a decision. As per him, he wanted to support the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity that is run by the head of paediatrics and his wife’s aunt at the Royal Brompton in London.
“It’s a very special shirt but I think it takes on extra meaning with it being able to hopefully go to the emergency cause.” he said as quoted by Cricket.com.au. Jos Buttler is a regular part of England cricket team, who has played 41 Tests, 142 ODIs and 69 Tests in which he has mustered 7,304 runs with the help of 35 half-centuries and 10 tons across all the formats.
He was all set to play for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 that got postponed to mid-April by BCCI due to COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, he showed his frustration over the same saying that it is a shame that such a massive tournament is getting postponed as the conditions are not fit and safe to organize the cricketing extravaganza.
