Josh Hazlewood emerges as popular contender for Australian vice-captaincy

As the Australia cricket team aims for resurrection under the stewardship of 34-year old Tim Paine, it has emerged that Josh Hazlewood is indeed one of the candidates to become Paine’s deputy in the Test cricketing scenario. Hazlewood, who is one of the premier bowlers the Aussies boast of in Test cricket has emerged as a favorite, especially after receiving the backing from his bowling partner Pat Cummins.

Cummins, who has bowled alongside Hazlewood for the better part of a few years has stated that Hazlewood was indeed a good role model when it came to leading a side alongside Tim Paine. “He’s really calm, really consistent, open, honest and a really good role model,” Cummins told cricket.com.au.

‘Nothing fazes him’

Cummins went on to add that nothing really fazed him and that there would be no fuss as far as Hazlewood was concerned, to say the least. “The way he goes about playing, nothing fazes him.”

“As a fast bowler, you can have a lot of days in the dirt where you bowl all day and you’ve got to wake up and do it all again tomorrow. But he just gets on with it, there’s no fuss.”

The likes of Peter Handscomb also reiterated the choice of Hazlewood for vice-captaincy. With Seve Smith and David Warner expected to be out of cricket for the next few months, Trevor Hohns and a few other stuffed-shirts in the Cricket Australia board have come out and stated that even Mitchell Marsh was a contender for the same.

The younger of the Marsh Brothers has been on the injured roster in recent times and is expected to be back for the series against Pakistan and India.
