JP Duminy asserts that India are a phenomenal ODI side
The southpaw is wary of the Indian side despite their loss in the Test series.
Following India’s defeat in the Test series, there has been a lot of buzz and excitement ahead of the ODI series, something the Indians will be keen on stamping their authority on. After an exciting contest in the test matches, both India and South Africa are going to lock horns at the Kingsmead Oval on Thursday for the first ODI. South African cricketer JP Duminy was all praise for the fightback India displayed in the final Test match. He further described what the Proteas had in mind the road to the 2019 World Cup.
Duminy also looked forward to representing Mumbai Indians in the IPL, a couple of months later. The fans expect nothing less from India, they’re a high profile team The Indians didn’t have a great outing in the previous tour when it came to the limited overs cricket. They lost the three-match series two nil. Duminy asserted that India was a phenomenal side when it came to One Dayers. He lauded the way India fought back in the third Test in spite losing the series.
“India is a phenomenal ODI side and they’ve managed to compete in all conditions around the world. Even though we won the first two Test matches, India competed and that’s what you want to see from high profile teams. India being the world’s No.1 ranked team, you expect nothing less from them.” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
The road to the 2019 World Cup is going to be an intriguing phase for all the teams. With barely 16 months left for the World Cup, the preparations in the upcoming ODI series’ are expected to be in full swing. Duminy said that a lot was to be done in making the players understand their roles and other significant attributes. He further mentioned that it was going to be a significant phase for everyone.
“There’s going to be a lot of shifting I would think leading up to the World Cup so guys will want to understand their role, understand their game and understand what brand of cricket we want to play going into 2019. It is going to be an intriguing phase not only for our team but for all teams.”

With a seemingly good number of South Africans are going to be drawn against their IPL teammates from the Indian team. The duo of AB De Villiers and Virat Kohli or Faf Du Plessis and MS Dhoni are going to be in the opposition sides pitting each other’s downfall.
“I have been part of the IPL for a number of years. You do end up playing against a lot of your potential teammates in the IPL. But right now, you know you’re going to be competitive, you want to win and you want to put big performances against the opposition.” he told according to PTI.
Duminy was first picked by Mumbai Indians during the second season of IPL. He ended up dominating the batting charts for the team. He may come face to face with his teammates Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming ODI series. However, he admitted that during the IPL, they would put the past away and focus on doing well for the club.
“But yes, in a few months time, we’ll be teammates. Then it will be about putting the past in the past and concentrate on winning the IPL. I’m really happy to be back with the Mumbai Indians.”
