The much-awaited second leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 got underway on Sunday (September 19) and the first clash saw Mumbai Indians taking on the Chennai Super Kings. As CSK were on a roll in the first half, many backed them to extend their purple patch in the Arab nation. However, they couldn’t make a scintillating start to the UAE leg.

After electing to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the three-time champions suffered a top-order collapse. While the likes of Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali bagged ducks, Ambati Rayudu got retired hurt on the second ball to worsen the case. Veterans MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina also couldn’t do much. With the top order not coming to the party, Mumbai Indians bowlers enjoyed a good time.

Krunal Pandya conceded 27 runs in two overs

However, the same can’t be said for Krunal Pandya. While the likes of Adam Milne and Rahul Chahar bowled with an economy rate below six, the senior Pandya was taken to cleaners. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja gave Pandya a hard time as CSK’s run rate got enhanced. As far as his numbers are concerned, Pandya gave away 27 runs in his two overs with his economy rate being 13.50.

Fans were really not amused with Pandya’s mediocre show and they expressed the same on social media. As a result, Twitter got flooded with memes and posts trolling the left-arm spinner. Meanwhile, Gaikwad played an innings of substance and pulled the three-time champions out of trouble. While he steadied the ship in the initial overs, the youngster played some sensational shots in the death overs.

Besides him, Dwayne Bravo scored 23 off 8 balls as CSK advanced to 156/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For Mumbai Indians, the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Adam Mile took two wickets apiece.  As per modern-day standards, the target isn’t a hefty and Mumbai Indians would back themselves to go over the line. However, the track is on the slower side and MI doesn’t have their regular skipper Rohit Sharma. Hence, it would be interesting to see how this contest pans out.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Krunal Pandya’s mediocre show:
