'Just mindset adjustments' - Jasprit Bumrah opens up about his performance in the first Test against England
Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball for India in the first Test.
In the first Test match between England and India pacer, Jasprit Bumrah clinched five wickets in England’s second innings and cleared the slate that had things written about his form. In a virtual press conference post the match Bumrah opened up about his performance and also praised Neeraj Chopra- the javelin thrower who brought the nation glory by winning the gold medal.
Being a sportsperson himself, Bumrah expressed that just participating in an event like the Olympics is a big achievement. He also asserted that he is proud of the athletes and whenever they achieve and they represent the country it is a great sign. The speedster was brought under the scanner for going wicketless in the WTC final, however, he turned things around by producing a splendid performance on day four. He further asserted about the pitch at Nottingham for the first Test.
“A lot of heavy rolling was also done on it (the Nottingham wicket), so it got a little slower (on Saturday). As soon as we bowled the fuller lengths it got a little easier (for the batsmen) than how it was in the first innings… The wicket has gotten a little better.” Bumrah said

The speedster has been an important cog in team India’s wheel ever since his debut. Thus, ahead of the England-India series, everybody expected him to get back in his rhythm owing to the impactful player that he is. On day four, India bundled up the hosts for 303 and looked favorites to win the first Test. Joe Root, Sam Curran and Stuart Broad all walked back to the hut off Bumrah’s deliveries and India found themselves in a dominating position.
Bumrah scalped five wickets taking his tally to a total of nine wickets in the match. When asked about what changes he made to his bowling from June, he stated that it was the mindset tweaks that he made. “Not a lot of adjustments, to be very honest. Just mindset adjustments – like being in the moment, back my skill and not look at the end result too much,” added Bumrah
