The Supreme Court of India, on recommendations from the Justice RM Lodha committee, has proposed ground sweeping changes to be implemented by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with a time frame. Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha former Chief Justice of India sounds pleased with the verdict of the SC that accepted the panel’s recommendations.
Justice Lodha said that he hopes that their suggestions are implemented and it helps in cleaning the image of the game which was marred by the spot-fixing controversy.
“Cricket is like a religion in the country. At the same time, it unites people. In view of this, transparency is required in every aspect, but due to match fixing, huge money, the dignity of this game is in a degraded state,” Lodha was quoted as saying by Etv news.
“To bring the game on its right track, we suggested a few points on the direction of the Supreme Court. The apex court has granted this. I hope that the sport and the players will get more affection from the audience once the suggestions come into effect,” he added.

In its judgment on July 18, the SC granted BCCI 6 months to get the recommendations into effect. The two-judge bench, comprising of Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice Ibrahim Kalifullah asked the BCCI to implement the ‘one state, one vote’ and also to add a member from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the board.
On the issue of bringing the BCCI under the Right to Information Act the apex court noted that it is for the Parliament to decide. That is not all the SC also said that the Lodha panel will also have the responsibility of overseeing the implementation in the 6 months granted to the board.
