Justin Langer backs Klinger and Marsh to come good
Former Australia batsman and Perth Scorchers coach Justin Langer has stated that he would certainly like to see the likes of Shaun Marsh and Michael Klinger to play in the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. The duo were instrumental to the Scorchers’ victory in the 2016/17 edition of the Big Bash League and now find themselves back in the Australian T20I squad as well. However, Langer, who coached the Scorchers in the tournament went ahead and stated that he’d like to see the duo be the first choice in Australian colours.
“While his age is probably against him for a long, bright future in Australian colours I’m sure he’ll play these games and he should, he deserves to. If you’re talking about Michael Klinger he would cut both his legs off and he would’ve for the last few years to play cricket for Australia,” the coach said.
Langer also went on to add that he was pleased to see someone like Tim Paine get the opportunity as well. “To see Tim Paine get an opportunity — a couple of years ago before his finger injury (he) was touted as a future Australian captain so a ripping bloke and there’s plenty of really good blokes there so I’m sure they will be looking forward to it. It depends on which balance they go for, how Australia wants to line up,” Langer said. “If they go the traditional XI you’d pick Shaun because of his record in not only the subcontinent but for Australia.
However, speaking about the same, Langer went on to state that Shaun Mash was perhaps one of those players who certainly did deserve to go ahead and play in the subcontinent. “He deserves to play, Shaun deserves to play in the Test match. Even before his injury, he deserved to play.”
