South African speedster Kagiso Rabada has also left the Delhi Daredevils camp midway through the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League. The pace bowler had a decent debut season in the IPL where he bowled and batted well for his side. He is now set to join the South African national side for the preparation for the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy.

With so much of cricket being played these days, the fitness levels of the fast bowler often comes under the scrutiny. They need to keep their energy levels high for long periods. As per the recent quotes in the Times of India, Rabada spoke at length about the challenges of playing too much cricket. He noted that as of now, he is not feeling the heat and is confident of playing long spells.

“I think the older I get, the hard it will get, definitely. But I’m not there yet. So right now it feels nice, I feel like I can do that,” quoted Kagiso Rabada.

He was then asked is he had found the right balance to cope up with the workload. Rabada noted that that the process is a continuous one. As of now, he feels good about his training and is pleased with the rhythm he has managed to get in the recent times. He is trying to strike the right balance between training and practicing. Talking about his role in the South African team, he was direct in citing that his role is to take wickets for the side.

“Have I found the balance? I don’t know. That’s an ongoing process … There are also some precautions you take to avoid certain mishaps. I think I’ve been training nicely, doing what I need to do. I’m continuously finding that balance – how much to bowl, how much to rest and how much to train,” the pacer quoted.

“My role in the South Africa team is to try and get wickets, to field well and to try and score some runs down the order. I don’t see myself as a leader, no one’s told me that,” he added further.

Reflecting back at his stint with the Delhi Daredevils, Kagiso Rabada has some happy memories with him. He bowled in tandem with the likes of Pat Cummins, who he feels is a similar bowler to him. Also, the privilege of talking to the legends like Rahul Dravid has given him a deep insight about the game and the mentality of the batsmen. He looked content with his time in India.

“Myself and Pat, we are basically the same age and bowl the same thing with very similar actions. We talk about different things about bowling, networking once again. Speaking to someone like Rahul Dravid, his batting experience and what he found hard… what he finds hard, a lot of batsmen would find hard too. So you get insight, as a bowler, from a bowler and a batter,” conceded Rabada.

The Cricket South Africa is all set to launch its own T20 league this year. Rabada hopes that the tournament will be a big hit like the IPL. He noted that many players play the IPL because of the huge sum of money that the tournament offers.

“Whole lot of people are in IPL because of the money. Not only the money though but money is a massive thing. Hopefully, it will be a similar thing in South Africa. Young players would have ambitions of playing in the league. Hopefully, it kicks off and becomes a good one,” concluded the pace bowler.
