South Africa’s bowling sensation Kagiso Rabada has been named the Best Young Male Cricketer award by Wisden. A poll was carried out among its correspondents around the world and the 23-year-old won it hands down and he thoroughly deserves it as well. The way he’s been leading the bowling attack for his team ever since making his debut at the highest level is really commendable and is tipped to become one of the all-time greats of the game.
Rabada has so far played 32 Tests, 52 ODIs and 17 T20 Internationals and has picked a total of 256 wickets already. Moreover, 151 scalps in such a short Test career has left many stunned and his average of 21.71 is one of the best among the current players. Frequent injuries to the likes of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel led to him making his debut during the 2014-15 season and the lad hasn’t disappointed since then.
CSA congratulates their wonder boy
Cricket South Africa (CSA) was also delighted after Kagiso Rabada won the prestigious award and showered praises on him. The Chief Executive of the board, Thabang Moroe, felt that the fast bowler deserved all the accolades and backed him to go all the way in his career. Only 23, Rabada, seems to have a long career and has already become the youngest cricketer to pick 150 wickets in Tests.
“This is another well-deserved honour for KG whose achievements over the last few years have been quite phenomenal. These include becoming the youngest ever player to top the ICC Test bowling rankings earlier this year and becoming the youngest player to take 150 Test wickets. He is clearly destined to become one of our all-time greats and he fully deserves all the accolades that have come his way,” Moroe was quoted as saying by sport24.co.za.
Rabada was recently in Sri Lanka for a tour across all the formats and was the best bowler for his team despite the fact that most of the matches were played on the dust bowls.
