The Delhi Capitals (DC) management decided to rest their premier pacer Kagiso Rabada for the game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). They missed him badly in the game and it was the first time the fast bowler didn’t play in a game in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. But this rest is likely to leave Cricket South Africa (CSA) more concerned than anyone else.
Shreyas Iyer, the DC skipper, informed after the match that Rabada has a stiff back and that was the reason the management didn’t risk him. “Yes we know what abilities he has. He’s an amazing bowler especially in the slog overs. For sure we missed him but he had a stiff back, it’s good he got to take rest,” Iyer said.
Dale Steyn is already injured and South Africa will just be hoping that Rabada is fit enough and the stiff back doesn’t cause him more troubles now with the World Cup less than 30 days away.
CSA to take a call
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that CSA has asked for the scan reports of Kagiso Rabada’s back and after assessing the same, they will take a call on his further participation in the tournament. In case, the pacer is called back, it will be a huge blow for DC ahead of the playoffs.
“He just complained of discomfort and we got all the tests done because we don’t wish to take a chance with any of our players. With the World Cup round the corner, even CSA got in touch with us and we spoke to them and have now sent them the reports. They will check the reports and get back to us on how to go about Rabada’s participation in the IPL,” the DC senior official close to the developments was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
