Kamran Akmal enters records books with another milestone in his long career
Kamran Akmal has had a tough time in recent times playing for his national team.
Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal reached the landmark of 800 catches in first class (FC) cricket. He has performed really well donning the gloves in the ongoing domestic season in Pakistan. The glove-man completed his 800th catch in the super 8 round match against KRL for his first-class side WAPDA.
He has been the successful wicket-keeper in the history of first-class cricket in Pakistan with 865 dismissals to his name at the domestic level. Kamran became the first keeper from his country and all over Asia to reach the milestone of 800 FC catches and also joined the list of 33 glovemen of which 31 are from the English country.
Akmal’s career has been full of ups and down
Akmal has had a tough time in recent times playing for his national team. He last played in the tour to Caribbean earlier this year, where he was part of both the ODI and T20I squads. But the right-hander failed to grab the opportunities that came to his way in the past years. He was subsequently dropped from the team for this year’s ICC Champions Trophy in England squad due to poor form.
Akmal’s cricketing career has been an intruding one so far. The 35-year old has represented his country in 53 Tests and 157 ODIs in which he has a scored 2648 and 3236 runs respectively. He has also played 58 games in the shortest format of the game in which he has a tally of 987 runs.
The keeper batsman was also the highest run-getter in the recently concluded National T20 Cup in the sub-continent nation. His chances of getting an opportunity to play for his country looks very uncertain in the near future as the current holders of the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy, the Pakistan team current line-up looks pretty settled one. But Akmal needs to keep up the good work both in front of the stumps and behind them to support his comeback in the national team.
