Veteran Pakistani batsman Kamran Akmal has been in a sensation form in the recent times. His form with the bat in the shortest format of the game has been phenomenal. Akmal hit a whirlwind ton in a domestic fixture earlier in the season. And now, more recently, he hit a brilliant ton in the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Playing for the Peshawar Zalmi, he had hit an unbeaten 107 in a league game fixture. Interestingly, this was his second ton in the PSL and his first of the season. Needless to concede, he has been a vital cog in the wheel for the Zalmis this season. Amidst this backdrop, many might feel that Kamran Akmal could well make a comeback to the national side.

His form has been great and with such batting, he is serving a case for himself. Soon after the conclusion of the PSL, Pakistan is scheduled to host West Indies for a T20I series. Whether Kamran gets a chance or not, remains to be seen.

Arthur rules out the possibility

For now, as per the reports in Brecorder, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has ruled out this possibility. He remarked that the team is keen on building a young side. And hence, roping in someone like Kamran Akmal would mean taking a step backwards.

With all due respect, he appreciated the innings played by Kamran. However, a national comeback is something that Mickey Arthur reckons is a far cry. Well, in that case, the veterans will find it tough to make it to the Pakistani team now.

“To be brutally honest, we are going with a young team, we are moving forward now. He played beautifully today, he did. He was outstanding. But then again, it comes back to where he fields because Sarfraz Ahmed is going to keep wickets. There are a lot of things to weigh up and I think we got a T20 side now that’s number one in the world. So, there’s not going to be too many changes for that West Indies series,” quoted Mickey Arthur.
