Kamran Akmal and Salman Butt's record-breaking act in numbers
Here are the stats and numbers from the record-breaking innings of Lahore Whites.
Pakistan’s National T20 Cup witnessed a sensational batting performance by Lahore Whites’ openers during which they washed out many Pakistan Twenty20 records. Kamran Akmal blasted an unbeaten 150 off just 71 balls with 14 fours and 12 maximums. Their skipper Salman Butt supported him well with a 49-ball 55 as both the opening batters went unbeaten with 209 on the board in the 20 overs.
Here are the stats and numbers from the record-breaking innings of Lahore Whites:
2 – Akmal and Butt became the 2nd opening pair in Twenty20 history to play full 20 overs. Lou Vincent and Shahriar Nafees pair put on 197/0 in 20 overs for Khulna Royal Bengal Tigers in BPL 2013 against Duronto Rajshahi.
3 – Number of centuries the wicketkeeper has to his name in Twenty20 cricket. These are the joint most number of tons in this format by a Pakistan player. Ahmed Shehzad, Mukhtar Ahmed and Khurram Manzoor also scored three T20 centuries. Mukhtar and Manzoor scored their 3rd century only a couple of days ago.
5 – Kamran became the 3rd player with fifty-plus scores in five consecutive innings in Twenty20 cricket. His previous four scores in this format are 52, 65, 63, and 52. Virender Sehwag and Hamilton Masakazda in 2012 scored fifties in five consecutive T20 innings.
12 – His 12 sixes are the most in a Twenty20 innings by a Pakistan player surpassing 10 sixes by Bilal Asif in 2015 for Sialkot Stallions against Faisalabad Falcons.
71.77 – Akmal scored a total of 71.77 percent of his team’s runs in this innings. This is the highest % of runs scored by any player in a completed Twenty20 innings. Cameron White scored 71.21 % of Somerset’s innings when he scored 141* out of 198/4 against Worcestershire in 2006.
128 – Runs Akmal scored in boundaries during this innings. These are the joint 4th most runs scored by any player in a single T20 innings. No Pakistan player has scored 100 runs alone in boundaries in a T20 inning. In fact, no player from Pakistan has scored as many as 128 runs in a T20 innings before Akmal.
150* – His unbeaten 150 is the highest individual score in Twenty20 cricket by a Pakistan player or by any player in Pakistan. He broke Mukhtar Ahmed’s 123-run knock scored in 2015 for Sialkot Region against Karachi Region Whites in Rawalpindi.
Overall, Akmal’s effort is the 10th 150+ score in the T20 format and the first-ever by a wicketkeeper. The previous highest individual score in the format by a keeper was 126* by Quinton de Kock in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge 2012/13.
209* – The unbeaten 209-run stand between Akmal and Butt is the highest for the opening wicket in Twenty20 cricket. They went past Joe Denly and Daniel Bell-Drummond’s 207-run stand for Kent against Essex earlier this year.
Overall, the Akmal-Butt stand is the 3rd biggest T20 partnership for any wicket after Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers’ 229 and 215* stands for the 2nd wicket against Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians respectively in 2015 and 2016.
209* – The 209-run partnership is the first ever double century T20 stand in Pakistan or involving a Pakistan player. Kamran was involved in a 176-run partnership for the first wicket with Tamim Iqbal in the Sri Lanka Premier League in 2012. The previous highest T20 partnership in Pakistan was 169* for the 2nd wicket between Yasir Hameed and Younis Khan for Abbottabad Falcons against Bahawalpur Stags in 2014.
