Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu took a major and brave decision to accept the invitation and travelled to Pakistan to be part of the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of his country. The former Pakistan cricketer became the 22nd Prime Minister of the country when he took the oath on 18th August, which also announced a potentially newest transition in their political history.

While many people in India flaked Sidhu for visiting the neighbouring country, the veteran Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal has thanked him for his friendly gesture. Earlier, former Indian cricket greats Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev were also sent invitations to be in Pakistan for the event.

However, the duo could not attend the ceremony due to their other professional commitments. Sidhu was the only Indian cricketer who accepted the invite and was also very keen to visit Pakistan and to make an attempt to revive the terms between the two nations.

Sidhu who is also a part of the Indian political setup faced a lot of criticism from the political world in India and many other people were also against his decision to attend Imran’s swearing-in ceremony when he was seen hugging the Pakistan Army chief. However, in his defence, the former Indian cricketer mentioned as an honorary guest in the country, his gesture was very much the right step for the future.

“This is a change and any change will bring hope. Hope sees the invisible and conquers the impossible,” said Sidhu as quoted by The News.

Thank you Sidhu

Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal expressed his views on Twitter and thanked Sidhu for taking his time out and visiting Pakistan. He also reckoned that his visit sends a clear message of love and unity in the future relations between the two neighbouring countries.

“Thank you very much for coming to Pakistan @sherryontopp your arrival to Pakistan made a clear & loud message of peace & love hope this will keep continued..inshaa Allah,” wrote Akmal on Twitter.
