Kane Williamson and Liam Dawson join Sylhet for the BPL 2017
Sylhet had earlier confirmed the news of Sabbir Rahman as their icon player.
The new comers Sylhet Surma Sixers have started making headlines, this time for roping in Kane Williamson and Liam Dawson. Sylhet Surma Sixers will take part in their maiden Bangladesh Premier League campaign this year. Dawson has earlier represented Rangpur Riders in the BPL and has played 105 T20 games so far, while the modern great Williamson doesn’t need a stats presentation.
Apart from starring with the ball (73 T20 wickets), Dawson has also aggregated 943 runs. Whereas, Williamson can also chip in with a bit of off-spin. The Kiwi batsman has played 116 T20s so far, scoring 2738 runs that included 26 fifties and a century. Even though Williamson is not known much to flash his blade often, but the reliable batsman can craft the innings to his advantage and take the game away from the opposition in no time. His experience at the helm will also come handy for Sylhet.
Delighted with the signings
Shafiqul Islam, the coordinator of Sylhet, have put a stamp on the signings. “We are glad to inform that Kane Williamson and Liam Dawson will take part in this season’s BPL for Sylhet. We are excited with their signings” he said.
Sylhet had earlier confirmed the news of Sabbir Rahman as their icon, going into the BPL. The right-handed batsman was previously made the icon of Rajshahi Kings. Following some controversies, it was believed that Mushfiqur Rahim will replace Sabbir for the Kings.
The side missed the action last season, and under the new ownership, the Sylhet outfit will hope to come good. They have also changed their team name from Sylhet Superstars to Sylhet Surma Sixers. The BPL 5 will begin from November 2nd and the first game will be played at the Sher-e Bangla National cricket stadium. The opening ceremony is expected to be held on 31 October 2017. A total of 60 matches will be played with the final set to be in Dhaka.
