26-year old New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and his impressive form have been rewarded by the fact that he now finds himself in the top five of the ICC World Rankings across all three formats. As skipper, Williamson has had little joy with the results but has been impressive with the bat, something that has propelled him up the ladder in terms of rankings.

Williamson already held the fourth and fifth positions in One-Day Internationals and Test matches before he broke into the top five of the T20I rankings as well. This comes on the back of the 145 runs Williamson amassed in the home series against Bangladesh, a series he played as an opener. Williamson scored 73 not out, 12 and 60 to finish with a series aggregate of 145 runs. These results see him jump up two places into fourth position.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the only other batsman apart from Williamson who sits in the top five of the World Rankings across all formats. Interestingly, Kohli and Williamson both captained their respective countries in the 2008 edition of the U19 World Cup and have now once again turned out for their respective countries as well.

Even Mustafizur Rahman’s performance has caught the eye of one and all, something that has propelled him up the rankings to 10th in the latest rankings. In doing so, he has also become Bangladesh’s highest-ranked bowler, leapfrogging Shakib Al Hasan who is 11th after rising three places.

Reacting to the news, Mustafizur said: “Rankings are an important indicator of consistency in performance and I am very happy and inspired to see myself in the top ten for the first time.”

New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner and Adam Milne have climbed up the rankings. Imran Tahir, Samuel Badree, and Jasprit Bumrah hold the top spots in the World rankings.
