The Tauranga-born recently played the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. He became the second captain after Brendon McCullum to lead New Zealand to the final of a World Cup. Kane notched a couple of masterful centuries against the Windies and South Africa. He remained consistent throughout the tournament and was the Kiwis’ standout performer with the bat.
Luck didn’t favour him though in the final versus England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. After the match got tied following the 100 overs, even the Super Over was locked on 16 runs each. It was on the basis of the controversial ‘boundary count’ rule that the Black Caps lost the encounter.
Despite the defeat, Kane was showered with appreciation for how he marshaled his troops and gave the hosts a run for their money. Among the Fab Four, which also includes Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Virat Kohli, Kane has the best average in the fourth innings, which shows his composed nature.
