New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has been signed by the Yorkshire team for the 2018 County season. This is the fourth time that Williamson would be playing in the Yorkshire colors. He has previously been associated with the team in the 2013, 2014, and 2016 season. In the 2014 season, when Yorkshire won the County Championship, Kane Williamson was one of the star performers for his team.
He had aggregated 629 runs at a staggering average of 57 with the bat. In the 2018 season, Williamson will be available to play 11 T20 Blast matches and then feature in four County matches as the overseas player for Yorkshire. If he gets picked in the playing eleven, then his first match of the English domestic season of 2018 will be against Durham on July 13.
Yorkshire’s team director was very pleased to have Kane Williamson back on the roster. He noted that the Kiwi skipper has been a consistent performer for them in the past and is one of most skilled batsmen of his generation. He is hoping to get the boost from Williamson’s signing in his team.
“Kane’s abilities are there for all to see and he has consistently performed well at the highest level for a significant period of time. He’s a cool character and a calm, reassuring influence on and off the field. He is a perfect fit for our dressing room at this moment in time. He’s a very experienced and highly skilled individual and, having spent periods of time with us in the past, Kane knows the Club and the players well and will be able to slot straight in to our playing group. His career has continued to go from strength to strength and he remains one of the best batsmen in the world. Hopefully he gives us the boost we need ahead of the 2018 campaign,” Yorkshire’s director of Cricket, Martyn Moxon quoted.
‘Excited to be back’
Speaking on the new signing, Williamson himself looked very pleased. He conceded that he has always liked playing for the club and is looking forward to yet another association with the club this season. He hopes to contribute to the team in a fruitful way yet again. He admitted that there have been a few changes in the side in terms of team management, but Kane Williamson is confident of putting up a good show nonetheless.
“I’m really excited to be linking up with Yorkshire once again. I thoroughly enjoyed my previous spells with the Club and I’m very much looking forward to contributing to a winning Yorkshire side. I’ve enjoyed some of my happiest cricketing moments with the county and I hope I can help improve the team both on and off the field,” quoted Kane Williamson.
“There have been a few changes since I was last involved but I still know most of the characters in the dressing room and, with Andrew Gale as coach, I’m sure that the winning culture remains as strong as ever. I’m sure more success is just around the corner and hopefully I can play a part in that,” he added further.
